Technical Occupational Carriculum

The purpose of the TOC is to provide a foundation of quality, standardized, general education which will meet the interest and aptitude of our learners, preparing them for access to particular employment or occupational workplace-based learning. It may also enable the learners to access a vocational qualification at a Technical and Vocational Training College.

The sole objective is to act only in the best interest of the learners' future.

The profile for a learner to register at our school, is determined on the following criteria:

Learners are assessed through a comprehensive assessment process as determined by the Department of Basic Education, which indicates an interest and aptitude in practical, skills-orientated and applied learning.

New learners are placed in Orientation Phase 1, 2 or Year 1 after being evaluated by writing placement tests (13-15 years) depending on available space in the school.

Orientation Phase 1 - 12 to 13 Years

Orientation Phase 2 - 13 to 14 years

Year 1 - 14 to 15 Years

Year 2 - 16 Years

Year 3 - 17 Years

Year 4 - 18 Years

During Year 1 the girls will follow all three occupational subjects. The TOC determines that only one occupational subject be taken from Year 2. They will then specialize in this subject up to Year 4, provided that they comply with the promotion requirements.

During Year 1, the boys will follow three occupational subjects (by choice). The TOC determines that only one subject be taken from Year 2. They will then specialize in this subject up to Year 4, provided they comply with the promotion requirements.

Note: Overalls are compulsory in all workshops, and must be provided by the learner.
